Abstract

The interest on studying Single-Sex and Coeducational Elementary
Schooling has grown significantly among researchers. Despite this, there
has been no research on this topic in Iran till now. The effects of school
type on academic achievement and social desirability which are among
important variables are examined in this research. The research design is
causal-comparative. The population is taken from students in fifth and
sixth grade from the public elementary schools in the academic year
1391/92 in Shahreiar, Tehran, Iran. The total number of the participants is
279 (half on co-ed and others on single-sex), which were selected by
random cluster sampling method. Results showed that the students from
single-sex schools had higher GPA, compared to the students of co-ed
schools. Also, it was statistically significant that the girls had better social
desirability compared to boys.

Abstract

The aim of the study was to investigate predicting of critical thinking based on emotional creativity and its components in university students. One hundred fifty six Shiraz university students were selected using convenient sampling method. Emotional Creativity and Critical Thinking Questionnaires were used for collecting data. Data were analyzed by Pearson correlation and multiple regression analysis. Results showed that emotional creativity was positively related to critical thinking. Also, critical thinking was significantly associated with components of effectiveness/authenticity and preparedness, but there was not significantly association with component of novelty. In additional, emotional creativity was positively correlated with all if components of critical thinking: engagement, maturity, and innovativeness. Simple regression analysis indicated emotional creation significantly predicted critical thinking. Furthermore, multiple regression analysis showed that among of components of emotional creativity, effectiveness/authenticity component only significantly predicted critical thinking. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that emotional creativity plays an important role in critical thinking.

Abstract

Sex education is considered as one of the main aspect of education that overlook in Iran. We used systematic review for answering three questions related to definition and conceptualization of sex education, sex education curriculum and skills and investigating the effectiveness of these programs. Findings of this study showed that sex education programs ranged from instruction for sexual protection to applying ethical methods for obtaining sexual health. Primary definitions of sex education were general and behavioral but as the time passed, this definition transform to culture-dependent definitions. Sex education program is effective for reducing unwanted pregnancy in adolescents and protecting from sexual abuse. It could conclude that adopting a holistic sexuality education that is characterized by applying psychological skill training methods and involvement of parents and school authorities, could fulfill the goals of sex education programs. Any sex education programs should modified based on the individual and cultural aspects to reach better success in guaranteeing sexual health for children.

Abstract

Self-defeating academic behaviors with impaired cognitive-behavioral process in the learning environment affect individuals' performance. Therefore, it seems necessary to pay more attention to this category. The aim of this study was to test a model for predicting academic self-defeating behaviors based on brain-behavioral systems, uncertainty intolerance and intelligence beliefs mediated by academic expectations stress. The method was descriptive-correlation and structural equation modeling. The statistical population was the students of Qom Azad University who were studying in 1399-1400. The sample consisted of 420 students who participated in the study in an accessible manner and through self-report through virtual social networks according to the Covid 19 pandemic conditions. Research instruments include Jackson (2009) Brain-Behavioral Systems Questionnaire, Freeston et al. (1994) Uncertainty Intolerance Scale (1994), Abdolfattah & Yates (2006) intelligence beliefs, Ang and Hwan Academic Stress Questionnaire (2006), Scale Cunningham (2007) was self-defeating behavior and cognition. The findings showed that the indirect effects due to the stress of expectations for the brain system on self-defeating behavior (β = 0.219, P = 0.000), unbearable intolerance to self-defeating behavior (β = 0.158, P = 0.000) and intelligence beliefs to Self-defeating behavior (P = 0.000, β = 110.0).

Abstract

The aim of this study was to explore the nature and process related to perceived social status among faculty members in Iran. By using a qualitative research design, 20 faculty members interviewed. Data were analyzed by exploratory thematic analysis.  Analyzing the data showed that faculty member’s perceived social status something like a gap or distance between existing and ideal status in their professional and social life in university and society. Judgement of faculty members about social status suggest that social status for academic jobs  degraded in social hierarchies. Furthermore, finding revealed four categories including organizational, institutional, managerial, political and personal process as the main categories. It seemed the need for reconstructing social status would be the linking process between categories and it is convincing to consider that as the main theme in data. According to findings, it seems perceived social status is constructed in university and it is influenced by a number of structural and personality process. Social status has  degraded for academic jobs but universities could reconstruct social status by modifying organizational, institutional, managerial and political process. In addition, applying indices related to social status could be effective for selecting volunteers for academic jobs.
