Abstract

The present study was aimed at analyzing cognitive activity of the brain during creative design thinking. This study was a causal-comparative study. The statistical population of the study was all students of Tabriz University in the period of 2016-17. At first, interested students were invited to participate in the research, and 30 of them were randomly selected and selected from delta, theta, alpha and beta frequency bands in the forehead, central, temporal, temporal and postural areas The series of quantitative electroencephalographic records was quantitatively recorded at two stages of rest and performed by the design of Torrance's cognitive creativity. Then, two cognitive and recreational activities were analyzed by multivariate analysis of variance and all stages were calculated by SPSS software version 19. The findings of the study showed that in the frontal area and at the time of creative cognitive thinking, the alpha is higher, and in the temporal region the Delta level is higher and this difference is significant at P <.1. However, no significant changes were observed in other frequency bands in other areas. Based on the findings of this study, it can be said that understanding the basic functions of the human brain in examining its behavior is very necessary and these results can provide a perspective for studying brain wave patterns as well as creative thinking.

Abstract

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a chronic functional gastrointestinal disorder that is characterized by abdominal pain, discomfort and change in the intestinal habits. The aim of this study was the comparison of brain oscillations features between patients with IBS and healthy control, speciallity in alpha frequency band by using rest-electroencephalography (EEG). 11 IBS patients (7 females and 4 male) and 11 healthy (7 females and 4 male), gender and age-matched, were selected and brain oscillations were recorded by a 64-channel EEG at rest in eye-closed condition. Alpha power, peak alpha frequency and frontal alpha asymmetry were calculated and analyzed by fast Fourier transform and independent t test. The results showed that in IBS group, the average of alpha was higher, the peak alpha frequency and frontal alpha asymmetry are lower than healthy control. Our findings indicated that difference between healthy control and IBS group in their cortical functions and generated brain wave oscillation, specifically in alpha frequency bands. Theses results may serve as a biomarker and prognostic tools for IBS treatments.

Abstract

The aim of the current reaerch was to study the effectiveness of cognitive rehabilitation on mathematical word problem solving in students with specific learning disabilitiy with impairment in mathematic. The research design was quasi-experimental pre-test and post-test with a control group. The statistical population of the study included all male students with specefic learning disabilitiy with impairment in mathematic in Rasht who were selected by available sampling. In the same vein, cognitive rehabilitation intervention was carry out in 8 sessions for the experimental group and the Response to  intervention Key Math Scale, RAVEN Intelligence Test and Mathematical Verbal Problem Solving Test were used to collect the data in the pre- and post-test stages.  Univariate analysis of covariance revaled that cognitive rehabilitation increased the rate of mathematical word problem solving in students with specific learning disabilitiy with impairment in mathematic. To achieve evidence-based practices, it is recommended to develope and implement a cognitive rehabilitation program to improve the verbal problem solving of students with specific learning disabilitiy with mathematical impairment and other students with developmental disabilities.
