یکی از اهداف اصلی دولت‌ها در عرصه اقتصادی، تلاش در جهت افزایش نرخ رشد تولید سرانه و بهبود وضعیت رفاهی جامعه است. حکمرانی خوب از جمله سیاست‌های پیشنهادی بانک جهانی است و در آن تاکید بر مشارکت همه بخش‌ها به منظور دستیابی به رشد و توسعه همه جانبه اعم از اقتصادی، سیاسی، اجتماعی و فرهنگی می باشد. در این پژوهش با استفاده از داده‌های مربوط به کیفیت حکمرانی در 97 کشور جهان در دوره 2012-2000 با استفاده از روش داده‌های تابلویی به بررسی تاثیر کیفیت حکمرانی و شاخص‌های آن روی نرخ رشد تولید سرانه پرداخته می‌شود. برای دستیابی به نتایج قابل مقایسه تمامی کشورها بر حسب درآمد سرانه در پنج گروه با درآمد اندک (گروه اول)، با درآمد کم‌تر از متوسط (گروه دوم)، با درآمد بالاتر از متوسط (گروه سوم)، با درآمد بالا و غیر عضو OECD (گروه چهارم) و با درآمد بالا و عضو OECD (گروه پنجم) تفکیک شده‌اند. در نهایت تمامی کشورها به عنوان گروه مجزا مورد بررسی قرار گرفته‌اند. سپس رگرسیون اقتصادسنجی برای هر گروه از کشورها به طور جداگانه برآورد شد. نتایج تحقیق حاکی از آن است که در دوره  مورد  بررسی و برای کشورهای مورد تحقیق شاخص‌های حکمرانی بانک جهانی برای گروه‌های درآمدی متفاوت اثرات همسان و هم جهت ندارند. چنان‌چه شاخص اظهار نظر و پاسخ‌گویی فقط در سه گروه از کشورها (گروه‌های سوم، چهارم و پنجم) اثر مثبت و معنی‌دار بر رشد اقتصادی دارد. شاخص ثبات سیاسی فقط در گروه سوم تاثیر مثبت و معنی‌دار بر رشد اقتصادی داشته و در سایر گروه‌ها این چنین نیست. شاخص کارآمدی دولت فقط در گروه‌های سوم، چهارم و پنجم تاثیر مثبت و معنی‌دار بر رشد اقتصادی دارد. در گروه اول فقط شاخص کیفیت مقررات تاثیر مثبت و معنی‌دار بر رشد اقتصادی نشان می‌دهد. این تفاوت در طرز تاثیر شاخص‌ها دلالت بر تفاوت در سیاست‌های نظارتی به منظور تاثیر گذاری بر نرخ رشد تولید سرانه در گروه‌های مختلف کشورها دارد.
