با توجه به اهمیت موضوع و نقش غیرقابل انکار محیط­زیست در زندگی افراد جامعه، در این پژوهش تلاش بر آن است تا فرضیه­ی ارتباط اندازه دولت و ترکیب هزینه­های دولت (از حیث جاری و عمرانی) بر انتشار دی‎اکسید کربن در ایران در دوره 1395-1350 بر مبنای رهیافت خودرگرسیونی با وقفه‌های توزیعی مورد آزمون قرار گیرد. برای تبیین بهتر، فرضیه فوق بر مبنای دو بخش تولیدی (صنایع تولیدی) و مصرفی (خانگی، تجاری، عمومی؛ و حمل­و­نقل) نیز موردبررسی واقع شده است. نتایج پژوهش در بلندمدت نشان می‌دهد که علیرغم عدم اثرگذاری اندازه دولت بر انتشار دی­اکسید کربن، نسبت هزینه­های جاری و نسبت مخارج عمرانی دولت به ترتیب اثر مستقیم (نامطلوب) و معکوس (مطلوب) بر انتشار دی‎اکسید کربن دارند. همچنین نسبت مخارج عمرانی دولت در هر دو بخش تولیدی و مصرفی اثری معکوس (مطلوب) بر انتشار دی‎اکسید کربنِ این بخش­ها دارد. این در حالی است که هزینه جاری دولت در هر دو بخش با اثر معنادار همراه نیست. شدت انرژی نیز در قالب کلی اثر مستقیم (نامطلوب) بر انتشار دی‎اکسید کربن داشته و اگرچه شدت انرژی بخش تولیدی اثر معناداری بر نسبت انتشار دی‎اکسید کربن در این بخش ندارد ولی در بخش مصرفی، شدت انرژی با اثری مستقیم (نامطلوب) بر انتشار دی‎اکسید کربن همراه است.
