بررسی عملکرد شناختی و حرکتی در سالمندان می تواند موجب شناخت ریسک فاکتورهای مرتبط با افتادن گردد. هدف از انجام این پژوهش مقایسه و بررسی رابطه بین عملکرد شناختی و حرکتی در سالمندان با و بدون تجربه افتادن بود. 60 سالمند با و بدون تجربه افتادن به صورت داوطلبانه در این مطالعه شرکت کردند. آزمون خلاصه معاینه روانی (MMSE)، آزمون ظرفیت حافظه کاری، زمان واکنش، آزمون بازداری پاسخ، تست برگ (Berg)، آزمون تعادل تاندم، 6 دقیقه پیاده روی و اعتماد تعادل در گروه ها مورد ارزیابی قرار گرفت. برای مقایسه داده های در دو گروه، از آزمون تی تست و برای بررسی رابطه بین متغیرها و پیش بینی سقوط از ضریب همبستگی پیرسن و رگرسیون چند متغیری استفاده شد. سطح معنی داری ( 05/0>p ) در نظر گرفته شد. نتایج نشان داد سالمندان دارای تجربه افتادن در آزمون های تعادلی و شناختی عملکرد ضعیف-تری نسبت به سالمندان بدون تجربه افتادن داشتند. نتایج همبستگی و رگرسیون نشان دادند، تست برگ، تعادل تاندم، بازداری و MMSE بیشترین ارتباط را با سقوط دارند. با توجه به این نتایج، افتادن در سالمندان با ضعف در عملکرد تعادلی و همچنین زوال شناختی همراه است. سن، یکی از فاکتورهای پیش بینی کننده افتادن می باشد و تقریباً بیش از  25 درصد از عملکرد حرکتی در ارتباط با ظرفیت های شناختی می باشد.
