هدف پژوهش حاضر شناسایی اثرات کووید-19 بر گردشگری ورزشی ایران و ارائه راهکارهای مناسب بود. پارادایم پژوهش تفسیری، ماهیت آن اکتشافی، رویکرد حاکم استقرایی، روش پژوهش کیفی، استراتژی پژوهش تحلیل مضمون و ابزار جمع ­آوری داده ­ها مطالعۀ کتابخانه ­ای هدفمند و مصاحبه ­های عمیق نیمه­ ساختاریافته بود. داده ­ها از دو گروه منابع انسانی آگاه و منابع متنی مرتبط با موضوع جمع ­آوری شد. نمونه­ گیری بر مبنای رسیدن به اشباع نظری و به روش هدفمند انجام گرفت (8 فرد مطلع و 17 مقاله). برای اطمینان از اعتمادپذیری، انتقال ­پذیری و تأییدپذیری سعی شد، تمام مراحل برای انجام پژوهش کیفی مورد توجه قرار گیرند. برای سنجش اتکاپذیری از روش هولستی استفاده شد که مورد تأیید قرار گرفت. جهت تحلیل داده ­ها از روش تحلیل مضمون استفاده شد. نتیجۀ تحلیل پیامدهای کووید-19 برای گردشگری ورزشی، 67 مضمون پایه، 13 مضمون سازمان ­دهنده و 3 مضمون فراگیر بود. همچنین، 52 مضمون پایه، 7 مضمون سازمان ­دهنده و 2 مضمون فراگیر به عنوان راهبردهای مقابله با این اثرات شناسایی شد. براساس یافته ­ها می­توان اظهار کرد که همگام با تغییرات ناشی از کووید- 19 لازم است صنعت گردشگری ورزشی، تغییراتی را در رویکرد و عملیات خود داشته باشد. این پژوهش استراتژی ­هایی را به منظور ایجاد این تغییرات پیشنهاد می ­دهد که به رونق دوبارۀ گردشگری ورزشی خواهد انجامید.
