دیابت یکی از بیماری­‌های شایع متابولیکی است.در بدن بیماران دیابتی، برداشت گلوکز کاهش می‌­یابد و FGF-21  نقش مؤثری در برداشت گلوکز دارد. همچنین، TNF-α یک عامل التهابی است که دیابت افزایش می­یابد. هدف این پژوهش، بررسی تأثیر شش هفته تمرین تناوبی شدید بر بیان ژن FGF-21 کبدی و میزان سرمیTNF-α در موش­‌های صحرایی دیابتی بوده است. به همین منظور، 48 موش صحرایی به‌­طور تصادفی به چهار گروه کنترل، دیابت، تمرین تناوبی شدید، و دیابت و تمرین تناوبی شدید تقسیم شدند. القای دیابت به روش تزریق صفاقی محلول استرپتوزوتوسین انجام شد. پروتکل تمرینی شامل ده نوبت یک دقیقه‌­ای دویدن (بین هر نوبت دو دقیقه استراحت) روی نوارگردان با سرعت و شیب پیش‌رونده، طی شش هفته و هر هفته سه جلسۀ تمرینی بود. در نهایت، با استخراج نمونۀ کبدی، بیان ژن FGF-21  با روش Real time PCR و تغییرات سرمی  TNF-αبا روش الایزا اندازه‌­گیری شد. تغییر معناداری در بیان ژنFGF-21  در هیچ گروهی مشاهده نشد، ولی کاهش سرمی عوامل التهابی نظیر پروتئین TNF-α در سطح معنی­‌داری 0.05p= و حفظ و بهبود زمان رسیدن به واماندگی در اثر تمرین تناوبی شدید مشاهده شد (0.00). احتمالاً، عوامل التهابی ناشی از دیابت نظیر TNF-α در بیان و میزان کوفاکتورهای الزامی( FGF-21-Klothoاثر مخربی داشته و سبب مقاومت در مقابل ورود  FGF-21به بافت­‌های مختلف بدن از جمله کبد می­‌شود؛ از طرفی، تمرین می‌­تواند التهاب ناشی از دیابت را کاهش دهد.
