کمبود ویتامین D با بسیاری از اختلالات عروقی ارتباط دارد؛ همچنین به دلیل وابسته بودن پاسخ‌های سختی‌شریانی به فعالیت‌بدنی و تغذیه، هدف بررسی ارتباط پاسخ سختی‌شریانی، متعاقب فعالیت‌ استقامتی و مصرف گلوکز با سطوح پایه ویتامین D در زنان و مردان غیرفعال بود. تحقیق از نوع مداخله ای و کارآزمایی بود و نمونه آماری را 88 نفر مرد و زن غیرفعال با دامنه سنی 20 تا 45 سال تشکیل‌دادند. سختی‌شریانی به‌وسیله دستگاه VaSera-VS-2000 اندازه‌گیری شد همچنین ویتامین D خون و ترکیب‌بدن نیز مورد ارزیابی قرار گرفت، سپس آزمودنی‌ها 30 دقیقه با 65% حداکثر ضربان قلب فعالیت و پس از 30 دقیقه از اتمام فعالیت مقدار 75 گرم گلوکز مصرف کردند و 60 دقیقه پس از اتمام مصرف گلوکز نیز سختی شریانی دوباره اندازه‌گیری شد، همچنین قند خون در طی چهار مرحله اندازه گیری شد. جهت تجزیه و تحلیل داده ها از آزمون همبستگی پیرسون و تحلیل واریانس با اندازه گیری مکرر در سطح معناداری (0.05≥P) استفاده شد . بین سطوح پایه ویتامین D و تغییرات شاخص CAVI (Cardio-ankle vascular index) به فعالیت بدنی و مصرف گلوکز در زنان ارتباط منفی و معنی‌دار (0.01=P)  و (559/0 R= ) و در مردان ارتباط مثبت و معنی‌داری (0.05=P) و (413/0R= ) وجود دارد. همچنین آزمون تحلیل واریانس مکرر با کواریانت قرار دادن مقادیر پایه ویتامین D در دو مرحله اندازه‌گیری شاخص CAVI در هر دو گروه زنان و مردان کاهش معنی دار نشان‌داد(0.05≥P)  به‌نظر می‌رسد سطوح پایه ویتامین D در پاسخ عروقی به فعالیت بدنی و مصرف گلوکز می‌تواند موثر باشد و عامل جنسیت نیز در نوع پاسخ افراد موثر است، با توجه به تحقیقات بسیارکم، نیاز به تحقیقات بیشتری در این زمینه ضروری است. نتیجه گیری: به نظر می رسد، تمرینات هوازی با شدت های مختلف سبب بهبود سطوح SOD و TNF-α میشود، گرچه شدت تمرین در تمرینات تناوبی عامل موثری در تغییرات سطوح هر دو متغیر بوده است.
