Abstract

The aim of present study was to investigate the relationship between two holistic constructs of self-awareness, mindfulness and integrative self-knowledge, and their associations with physical, psychological, social and spiritual health problem. To do so, 249 Iranian university students,170 women and 79men,completed following scales: Mindfulness Attention Awareness (Brown & Ryan, 2003), Integrative Self-Knowledge (Ghorbani, Watson & Hargis, 2008), Biopsychosociospiritual inventory (Katerndahl& Oyiriaru, 2007), and Depression Anxiety Stress (Lovibond&Lovibond, 1995). The data showed that these two constructs of self-awareness are negatively associated with all aspects of health. The integrative self-knowledge also predicted all measures of health that are beyond the mindfulness. These results point toward the integrative and temporal nature of self- awareness processes and suggest a need for studying the direction and nature of relation between Self-awareness and health.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the changes in implicit and explicit cognitive processes during and after different intensities of aerobic physical exercise based on Transient Hypofrontality Theory. 39 male subjects with an average level of physical activity (age: M = 20.97± 0.14 Vo2 max: M = 50.25± 6.92 ml/kg/min) were divided randomly to three groups of thirteen based on the intensity of aerobic physical exercise: high intensity group (first group), moderate intensity group (second group), and low intensity group (third group). Magnetic bike was used for aerobic physical activity and heart rate remote control was used to control the intensity of activity. Implicit cognitive process (Visual choice reaction time) and explicit cognitive process ( Stroop) tests were performed in four times: before and during the activity, 1 minutes and 15 minutes after the cessation of the activity. Results of the repeated measure ANOVA and inter-group factor showed that the effects of factors including time, group and interaction were significant on the implicit cognitive test.                                                                                                         As for the explicit cognitive test , the major effect of time, interaction and group was significant. Results of this study showed that transient hypofrontality occurred when the intensity of aerobic physical exercise was high.

Abstract

The purpose of this article was studied of the efficacy of transactional analysis group therapy upon improving problem-solving skills. This study was experimental with pretest-posttest design. Thirty clients who were referring to the Ferdowsi University Counseling and Psychology Clinic were chose based on screening method. In addition, were randomly divided two equal groups (15 participants): experimental and control groups. Problem-solving questionnaire was used collect data as well as the experimental intervention was TA group therapy that was administrated during two hours and weekly. For data analysis in the descriptive level mean and standard deviation were used and covariate method was used at the inference level (ANCOVA). The results suggest that the problem-solving skills in the experimental group significantly increased. Moreover, by the increase in subscales creative, confidence, control, and approach styles were observed. It concluded that the method of TA group therapy is effective and useful strategy in improving problem-solving skills.

Abstract

Depression is a common psychological disorder among the mothers of newborn children and it correlates with the social and psychological adjustment of children and parents. The aim of the present research was to examine the factors affecting the depression in the mothers with the children under the age of two. The sample of this descriptive-correlation study included 220 mothers having the children under the age of two of women of Tehran, who were at Tehran’s Parks, these subjects were selected by purposeful and accessible sampling method. Also, the tools used to collect the data included Beck Depression Inventory, Parenting Stress Index, Sources of Social Support Scale, Maternal efficacy Questionnaire, Maternal separation anxiety scale and Child temperament questionnaire. Stepwise regression analysis showed that parenting stress and parenting self- efficacy in two steps could explain 29% of variance in maternal depression. Therefore, educational programs relevant to the mentioned factors can reduce the maternal depression and can prevent from children’s psychological problems.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate effectiveness an antibullying parent management training on Student's Victimization and Cognitive Emotion Regulation. This research was semi-experimental design with pre test-post test design and control group. The statistical population of study was all primary schools city of Karaj in academic year of 96-97  and the statistical sample was one of schools in the 12th district of Karaj was selected by random cluster sampling. Then 36 victim students of the fourth and fifth level were selected using California's bully-victimization questionnaire and Granofsky's cognitive emotion regulation questionnaire and randomly assigned to two experimental and control groups of 18 Parents of the experimental group underwent parent management training in 9 sessions of 90 minutes(one session per week). Data were analyzed using SPSS 20 and analysis of covariance. The findings of the study showed that parent management training had a significant effect on reducing the victimization and improving the emotion regulation of students. This study showed the effectiveness of parent management training on reduceing victimization and improve cognitive emotion regulation in students.

Abstract

Fear of death is a global and cultural issue. The aim of the present study was to develop and validate a scale for afterlife fears in the Iranian sample. This study was an exploratory sequential mixed method design. The Qualitative phase included semi-structured interviews with 12 acute cardiac patients. The content of patients answers about afterlife fears rearranged as 14 items for quantitative phase. At the quantitative phase, 313 subjects (230 women and 83 men) were selected from Tehran city and carried out the questionnaires online. For studying construct validity of Afterlife Fear Scale, the responses of normal sample analyzed by exploratory factor analysis method. For assessing the concurrent validity of new Afterlife Fears Scale, its correlation with the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-II, 1996) and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (SES, 1965) were calculated. Data analysis was performed using Pearson correlation coefficient, exploratory factor analysis, principal component extraction method and parallel analysis. Three factors were extracted which were named as "fear of punishment and grave torment", "loneliness and abandonment" and "longing and confidence in God", respectively. The internal consistency method was used to determine the reliability of the scale. Cronbach's alpha coefficient of the subscales ranged from .63 to .88, which indicated the appropriate internal consistency of the scale and its components. The Afterlife Fears Scale has good reliability and validity in the Iranian Muslim sample and can be used to identify the underpinning fears of cardiovascular patients and anxiety reduction interventions, as well as cross-cultural comparisons.
