Abstract

Background and Aim: This research is dedicated to assessing information behaviors of children and adolescents’ interaction with print and digital books. To reach this goal, digital books of Iranian virtual library for children and teenagers, have been used as sources of research. The purpose is assessing the influence of participants’ gender, age and graphical effects of books, with their preference in choosing type of books. 
Method: A mixed method was used qualitative method to investigate the information behaviors and quantitative statistics to answer some of questions. Samples were selected based on members’ availability, which ultimately thirty-two of them have been chosen equally between boys and girls. Data were collected using observation and semi-structured interviews and recording speech data.
Results: The findings showed that %70 prefer print format to digital one. The gender of children and graphic effects of books did not influence on members in choosing the format. As children age, their desire in choosing print type gets stronger, while younger children approach digital book as entertainment. Print books caused more enthusiasm in children to continue reading.
Conclusion:It seems that browsing print books is much easier and pleasant for children than digital books. Print books are least succeptable to distractive factors, thus, they are more suitable for long reading.

Abstract

Background and Aim: This study is set to represent information search process in the selected preschool children in Tehran (namely Mahgol and Taranom) and compare the results with BAT model.
Methods: This is an Applied and comparative study with qualitative approach based on grounded theory. Research population was preschool children in Tehran from two different regions of city. Sampling was done by multi-stage and clustering purposive method. Considering the context of the society, preschools in two different regions of Tehran were selected. 20 children were selected as a sample of the study. Three groups including children, teachers and parents were studied.
Results: The results show that information search behavior in Mahgol and Taranom preschools include education, preparing, predictive behavior, curiosity and incomprehension. In comparison with BAT model, it has education of concepts instead of reading. They have shown planning, finding, gathering data and organizing behavior in doing research assignments. Defining behavior was rare and there were no evaluating behavior in comparison with BAT model. Some similar behaviors with BAT model were seen in the second stage. Happiness behavior was seen less than other behaviors. Referencing was seen in the telling stage and there was little interpreting and integrating. The same behaviors with BAT model were seen in the third stage.
Conclusion. Educating information search process to preschool children based on BAT model can enrich children’s skills in research.

Abstract

Background and Aim: The aim was to identify the targeted search, work duty, cultural and social-Organizational dimensions of information retrieval contexts using the Ingwersen and Jarvelin framework.
Method: Content analysis and systematic review of articles between 1991 and 2021(1371 – 1400) in domestic and foreign databases steered via: Scopus, Science Direct, Emerald, ProQuest, Eric, Comprehensive Humanities Portal, Noormags, Magiran, SED, and Civilica. Six steps including: Identifying keywords; retrieving Ingwersen and Jarvelin; Selection of the article by subject matter and validity of the sources; Search the background and extract a list of related articles; Prepare final articles and; Open coding were completed. Data collection was based on keywords extraction and texts information. Population, information sources, and validity of the results were guaranteed by the systematic classification process, based on past researches.
Findings: Keywords related to the dimensions of information system substances and retrieval of Ingwersen and Jarvelin was identified among 53 out of 3048 articles. Dimensions, criteria and open codes of identified matters, information retrieval context including: Comprehensiveness; Obstacle; Effectiveness; Information and process quality; Targeted search context includes; usability; Information and process quality. Task context includes: Information quality and work process / results. Cultural and social-organizational context including: socio-cognitive relations; The quality of the task result.
Conclusion: Real information is the result of human understanding of data sources during the process of interaction, communication and information. Interactive approach helps to understand human information behavior. Equally, interactive information retrieval provides theoretical framework for understanding its nature and analysis by considering the dimensions of the contexts.
