Abstract

Background and Aim: Information seeking is interactive behavior of searcher with information systems and this active interaction occurs in a real environment known as background or context. This study investigated the factors influencing the formation of layers of context and their impact on the interaction of the user with search option dialoge in EBSCO database. Method: Data from 28 semi-structured interviews with graduate students and medical information librarians were collected and coded whith open, axial and selective methods using grounded theory approach. Results: Identified general catagories and central ideas ​​in this study include: features’ search, facility to display data: availability and usability of results, general features (personality and character) of the user, presenting unique features (offering more options in database pages). Conclusion: This research in line with previous ones and with regard to the underlying dimensions of context (place, person, or object), investigaed the need to understand factors for improvement of user’s interaction with the Web search. All dimensions of the user interactions with visual search option require understanding the context’s underlying factors. Identification of contextual factors affecting visual search improves users’ search strategy approaches.

Abstract

Background and Aim Among the places that context-aware systems and services would be very useful, are libraries. The purpose of this study is to achieve a coherent definition of context aware systems and applications, especially in digital libraries.
Method: This was a review article that was conducted by using Library method by searching articles and e-books on websites and databases.
Results: Findings of this study indicate that context-aware services in digital libraries by understanding specific conditions of each user - such as demographic characteristics, time position, location and collecting and analyzing of its data - could provide smart and appropriate services.
Conclusion: Digital libraries are constantly evolving and moving forward and must coordinate themselves with on-going changes. Equipping libraries with context-aware services lead them to best meet information needs of their users, without limitation of time and place.

Abstract

Background and Aim: The present study has been done in order to survey contextualized information retrieval behavior by the students of Kharazmi University.
Methods: This is descriptive applied research. Statistical population includes all the students currently studying at the Kharazmi University in the time of research. Sample of research includes 196 students selected by convenience sampling method. In order to collect information a researcher-designed questionnaire was used. The questionnaire’s reliability was 6.82 and its validity was confirmed some university professors. For analyzing data, One- sample T- test and independent samples T test were used.
Results: Results showed that the main efficient factor in information retrieval behavior of students was computer sites of the university. Students obtained their required scientific information through Internet resources via search engines. Their main aim in seeking scientific information was doing their assignments. Students primary aim of seeking scientific information was to collect educational information followed by research information.
Conclusion: The main impediment and problem on the way of information seeking at the university was low internet speed. Also, there was no significant differences between demographic factors (gender, marital status and resident’s status) and information retrieval behavior of students. Only in some research variables we found significant differences.

Abstract

Objective: The aim is to discover the underlying context components of IOT usability in Iranian libraries: A qualitative approach consistent with grounded theory.
Method: This qualitative study was conducted based on grounded theory. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 13 faculty members of knowledge and information science based on purposeful and chain methods. Responsive and inter-docking method (repeatability index) had been used for validity and reliability.
Findings: By reviewing the texts and propositions obtained from the interviews, 7 basic components of IoT usability in Iranian libraries were identified from 36 categories and concepts. These include communication and exchange of information, awareness and cognition, intelligences, Information findability, information literacy, self-reliance and automating, and structures and infrastructures.
Conclusion: The identified underlying components provide a suitable platform for the rule and realization of the main phenomenon of IoT usability in Iranian libraries. Based on the results, the paradigm and theoretical model of IoT usability is drawn and presented in Iranian libraries. By identifying the underlying components and their relationship in the theoretical model and based on the attitudes of interviewees in Iranian libraries, libraries could use it to establish and implement IoT.
