با توجه به اینکه بهبود کارائی مصرف انرژی و اثر بازگشتی ناشی از آن در ادبیات اقتصاد انرژی بسیار مورد توجه است ازاینرو مقاله حاضر با بکارگیری رویکرد ARDL به تخمین اندازه اثر بازگشتی مستقیم مربوط به مصرف گاز طبیعی در بخش خانگی ایران پرداخته و برای این منظور از داده‌های دوره زمانی 1395-1365 و روش‌شناسی مبتنی بر تخمین کشش تقاضای گاز طبیعی با توجه به قیمت‌های شکسته‌شده بهره گرفته شده است. یافته‌های تحقیق نشان می‌دهند که اولاً اثر بازگشتی مستقیم مربوط به مصرف گاز طبیعی در بخش خانگی کشور وجود داشته و در نتیجه صرفه‌جویی انرژی ناشی از بهبود کارائی انرژی کمتر از انتظار خواهد بود ثانیاً اندازه اثر بازگشتی مستقیم مربوط به تقاضای خانگی گاز طبیعی در کوتاه‌مدت برابر با 69 درصد و در بلندمدت برابر با 78 درصد است. همچنین یافته‌ها حاکی از عدم وجود اثر معکوس ناشی از مصرف گاز طبیعی خانگی بوده و لذا بکارگیری سیاست‌هایی در زمینه بهبود کارائی مصرف گاز طبیعی در بخش خانگی ایران قابل توصیه است.
