در اقتصاد درجه دخالت سیاست­گذاران در ایجاد ثبات و عکس العمل به نوسانات یکی از مهمترین مسائل است. هر چه سهم تکانه‌های کارا در نوسانات اقتصادی بالاتر باشد، درجه عکس العمل سیاستی کاهش می‌یابد. مطالعه حاضر با استفاده از داده‌های فصلی سال 1367 تا 1393 و رهیافت مدل تعادل عمومی پویای تصادفی، به اندازه­گیری سهم تکانه‌های کارا در ایجاد نوسانات اقتصادی و همچنین برآورد رشد بالقوه و کارا در اقتصاد ایران می‌پردازد. نتایج حاصل از تخمین بیزین تعادل عمومی پویای تصادفی نشان می‌دهد که سهم بالایی از نوسانات اقتصادی در ایران ناکارا بوده و بالغ بر 70 درصد از نوسانات اقتصادی به وسیله تکانه پولی قابل توضیح است. همچنین برآورد رشد بالقوه و رشد کارا در طول دوره مورد مطالعه دلالت بر هموار بودن رشد کارا نسبت به رشد بالقوه و واقعی  است، همچنین پایدار بودن اثر تکانه تکنولوژی بر تولید نشان دهنده اهمیت توجه به رشد تکنولوژی و بهره‌وری در اقتصاد ایران است. به همین دلیل احتمالا تمرکز بر رشد بلندمدت دارای منافع بیشتری نسبت به تمرکز بر ادوار تجاری است.
