Abstract

Determining the best rest interval durations between resistance exercise sets for adaptation is very important. This study investigated the effect of different rest intervals duration between resistance exercise (RE) sets on the gene expression of CGRP and IGF-1. Forty two male Wistar rats were randomly divided in to 7 groups. The resistance exercise included one session of climbing on one meter ladder with 26 steps. Exercise included 4 sets of 5 repetitions with an overload of 150 percent of the rat's body weight and 30, 60, 90, 120, 150 and 180 seconds rest intervals. The qRT-PCR technique was used to evaluate the gene expression of CGRP and IGF-1. The gene expression of CGRP in soleus muscles following RE with rest intervals of 30 (P=0.001), 60 (P=0.001) and 90 seconds (P=0.001) were significantly lower than 120, 150 and 180 seconds. However, there were no significant differences in the gene expression of IGF-1 among all groups (P=0.12). Based on our results, it seems that these rest interval domains can be addressed as a cut point of gene expression for the strength and hypertrophy developing process at the cellular level.

Abstract

 The chronic ankle sprain is the most common injury among athletes, and using the tape is one way to prevent it. The aim of the present study was to determine the effect of the Kinsio-tape on the compressive and shear mechanical forces of the ankle joint during single-leg jump landing. 12 subjects were selected based on inclusion criteria. Subjects were asked to perform landing after jump in the conditions of with Kinsio-tape and barefoot, with the injured leg. The peak and mean compressive and shear forces of ankle joint were calculated in MATLAB software. Paired t-test was used to test the hypotheses (P≤0.05). There is no significant difference in all variables between two condition of landing with barefoot (mean of shear force= 0/05 ± 0/01, peak of shear force= 0/85 ± 0/06, mean of compressive force= 0/39 ± 0/02, peak of compressive force= 4/41 ± 0/22) and with Kinsio tape (mean of shear force= 0/05 ± 0/01, peak of shear force= 0/82 ± 0/06, mean of compressive force= 0/38 ± 0/03, peak of compressive force= 4/43 ± 0/28) (P>0.05). Since the use of the Kinsio-tape did not make a significant difference in the variables, it cannot be suggested as a safe prescription to protect ankle joint from compressive and shear mechanical forces in volleyball players.

Abstract

Purpose: Today, many new exercises are offered to strengthen central stability muscles, and CXWORX exercises are one of them. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of CXWORX exercises on postural and functional stability, proprioception, strength and specific skill in basketball players with trunk defects.
Methods: The current research was a semi-experimental and applied type of research. 30 female basketball players with trunk defects were selected by available sampling and randomly placed in two groups. Trunk defects were evaluated through the tuck jump test, lower limb stability through the Flamingo test, functional stability of the upper limb and dynamic balance through the Y test. CXWORX exercises were performed for six weeks by the training group. dependent t-tests and covariance analysis were used to analyze the data.
Results: The results showed that six weeks CXWORX exercises have a significant effect on improving the stability of upper limb function (P<0.05), dynamic and static balance (P<0.05) and specific skill (P<0.05) in basketball players with trunk defects.
Conclusion: Based on the findings of the present study, it is recommended that health and corrective exercise professionals utilize CXWORX training to enhance the sports efficiency, sports performance, and sport-specific skill of basketball players.
