Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of emotional working memory training on improving cognitive control of participants with high trait anxiety symptoms. This study was based on a quasi-experimental design pretest& posttest with active control group. 28 students from Ferdowsi University of Mashhad with high scores on trait anxiety, State-Trait Anxiety Inventory were voluntarily selected, according to available sampling. 14 people in both experimental and active control groups were matched and randomly assigned into two groups. To measure cognitive control color-word Stroop test was used. Persian Emotional Working Memory Training was used with the experimental group and Shape Matched Training Task was used with the active control group To analyze the results multivariate analysis of covariance was conducted The results showed a significant difference in cognitive control components (congruent reaction time, incongruent reaction time and interference score) between the two groups.

Abstract

Being behavioral inhibition problems in people with obsessive-compulsive disorder outstands need for more notice to new therapeutic methods. Therefore, The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of emotional working memory training on improvement behavioral inhibition of people with obsessive-compulsive disorder. For this purpose, 20 people with obsessive-compulsive disorder were selected available sampling by using 2 instruments (SCID-I) & (YOCS) .Then they randomly divided into two groups, control and experiment. The experimental group participants were under emotional working memory training during 20 sessions. All participants were assessed during pre-training and post- therapy by go /nogo task. The results of multivariate analysis of covariance showed that there is a significant difference in go /nogo omission error and reaction time between two groups in post-test stage and scores of experimental group were less than the control group.
Regarding to the current study, it can be said that emotional working memory training is an appropriate choice for improvement behavioral inhibition of people with obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Abstract


In this study we manipulate structure of combined practice (physical along with self-modeling of positive self-review) to examine its effects on motor memory reconsolidation process and motor transfer in children. 36 female students (9-12 years old) from Maktabi elementary school of Qom trained Dart throwing. Of the 15 trials (from 1.5, 2, and 2.5 meters in blocked order), Positive self-reviewing videos were provided in the pre-test. A week later, subjects practiced in 3 groups of combined constant, random and blocked practice. Paired samples T test of Means radial error between end of acquisition and tests showed significant improvement in all practice groups (P≤0.05) for 24 hour blocked retention test (after recall), significant improvement in only combined blocked practice group (P=0.016) for 24 hour constant retention test (after recall) and significant decrease in all practice groups for 24 hour transfer test (after recall). Therefore re-stabilizing motor memory during reconsolidation could occur in children and low variable (blocked) practice could lead to more improvements in reconsolidation process and transfer of motor memory in children.

Abstract

Present research was performed to investigate the relationship between theory of mind with negative emotions (anxiety, depression, stress) with the mediating of cognitive emotion regulation strategies. The statistical population was all parents of exceptional children in Mashhad daily physical, dynamic, mental rehabilitation centers in 1396-97 year. A sample of 196 people was selected based on the Krejcie and Morgan table.The research questionnaires included Cognitive Emotion Regulation, Mind-Reading test through eye image and Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale. Data were path analysis using Pearson correlation coefficient. Correlation results showed that theory of mind had a significant negative correlation with anxiety and depression but no significant relationship with stress was confirmed. And there was a significant negative correlation with cognitive emotion regulation maladaptive strategy (blaming others) and no relationship with other maladaptive strategies was confirmed. And it has a significant positive relationship with cognitive-emotional regulation adaptive strategies (positive re-focusing, viewpoint-taking). Relationship with other strategies not confirmed.Maladaptive strategies (blaming self, blaming others, rumination, catastrophical) have a significant positive relationship with anxiety , depresion stress.Adaptive strategies (positive re-focus, taking viewpoint) have a significant negative relationship with anxiety, depression, and stress. Reappraisal strategies with stress and acceptance with depression have a significant negative correlation.The results of the path analysis showed that the proposed model has a good fit the mediating role of cognitive emotion regulation in relation to the theory of mind with negative emotions and Others' blaming strategies, taking-viewpoint, positive refocus, in addition to the direct relationship, have an indirect and mediating relationship between theory of mind with negative emotions (anxiety, depression).According to the research findings, it is concluded that there is a significant negative relationship between theory of mind and negative emotions (anxiety, depression).In addition, cognitive emotion regulation strategies (blaming others, taking viewpoint, positive re-focusing) play a mediating role. And this is a new step toward formulating theoretical models for predicting negative emotions (anxiety, depression) of parents of exceptional children.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of working memory training with emotional stimulation on self-injury behaviors of people with borderline personality disorder. The method of current study was semi-experimental and its design was pre-test and post-test with a control group. All the students of University of Mohaghegh Ardebili with borderline personality disorder in the 2017-2018 academic year comprised the population of this study. Forty people were selected by the screening method via the Boderline Traits Scale (STB) and the Structured Clinical Interview for Mental Disorders (SCID-II) and they were assigned to two experimental and control groups. The experimental group attended working memory training with emotional stimulation for 10 sessions of 30 to 45 minutes for 10 days, i.e. during two weeks every day (except Thursdays and Fridays), while the control group did not receive such training. The Sansone and Wiederman Self-Harm Inventory (SHI) questionnaire was used to collect information for both pre-test and post-test stages. Data were analyzed using a statistical method of single variable covariance analysis. The results showed that the mean self-injury scores of the subjects in the experimental group were significantly reduced compared to the control group in the post-test stage. According to the present study, it could be suggested that working memory training with emotional stimulation via strengthening cognitive control is effective for reducing impulsive behaviors such as self-injury.

Abstract

Several studies have investigated wishful thinking or desirability bias in children and adults, while no research has been conducted for the evolution of wishful thinking during childhood and adolescence. The aim of the present research was to investigate the evolution of wishful thinking in Iranian children and adolescents aged from 7 to 14. This study was an evolutional one with a cross-sectional method. Participants were all students aged from 7 to 14 in public schools in the academic year of 2019-2020. The sample consisted of 240 individuals in 4 age groups and each group was made up of 30 females and 30 males selected by the convenience sampling method. The marked-card test, which has been designed as a web-based software, was used. The data were analyzed by a repeated measuring ANOVA. The results showed that wishful thinking among Iranian children did not decrease with age. Moreover, participants aged from 11 to 14 years indicated more severe bias than children from 7 to 10 years old in predicting unpleasant events, despite the perception of probabilities. Considering the effect of wishful thinking on the decision-making process, especially in predicting negative events and subsequently the occurrence of risky behaviors, further research would be necessary to find solutions for the awareness and balance of wishful thinking.

Abstract

Efforts to further progress in practice and learning have introduced cognitive imagery and action observation. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of different practice ratios on consolidation the motor memory of girls with cognitive load. This research was a quasi-experimental study with a pretest, acquisition and retention design. The statistical population of the study includes primary school students in the 18th district of Tehran in the academic year of 97-98 who were selected by convenience sampling method. 98 elementary school girl students in the age range of 8-12 years were randomly divided into 10 groups (physical practice, motor imagery, action observation, motor imagery - physical practice and action observation - physical practice) based on inclusion criteria. Were. Demographic, motion imaging (MIQ-R) and motion imaging resolution (VMIQ-2) questionnaires, Strope task and serial color matching task were used to collect information. Participants made an effort in the 1920 acquisition phase and 48 hours later in an 80-block memorial session. To analyze the data, analysis of covariance test 2 (assessment steps: acquisition, retention) × 5 (experimental groups) with repetition on the factor of assessment steps, SPSS software was used. The results of analysis of variance showed that the main effect of practice type and cognitive load type was significant (p <0.05). The results of Bonferroni post hoc test showed that the participants in the practice observation and imaging group with low cognitive load had the best performance and the participants in the practice group with low cognitive load had the weakest performance compared to the other groups. Performing practice in a combination of observation and imaging will lead to better performance in learning and consolidation motor memory.

Abstract

This study aimed to comparison of the effect of Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) and Transcranial Random Noise Stimulation (tRNS) combined with cognitive training on working memory performance of people with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder. For this purpose, 45 children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in zahedan city were purposefully selected as the research sample. Subjects were divided into three groups: tDCS, tRNS and placebo group. Subjects in the experimental groups received 5 sessions of electrical stimulation (tDCS and tRNS) with an interval of 24 hours between each session; placebo group also received fake stimulation (non-effective). At the same time, all subjects also received cognitive rehabilitation of working memory. All subjects were evaluated before and after the stimulation and one week after the stimulation using the N-back task and the Wechsler Digit span test. The data were analyzed using repeated measures analysis of variance. The results showed that in the tDCS group, there was a significant difference in most working memory components from the pre-test stage to the follow-up (p<0.001). In the tRNS group, a significant difference was found in the component of direct digit span and reverse digit span in the research stages. In the comparison between the two experimental groups, the effectiveness of the tDCS group was higher than that of the tRNS group. Also, no significant difference was found in most of the components between the tRNS and placebo groups (p>0.05). Overall, the results of this study show that tDCS was more effective than tRNS in working memory and this method can be used together with other treatments to improve the working memory of children with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder.
