Statistics population was fifth grade girl students in elementary school and third grade girl students in secondary school of seventh district of ministry of education in Tehran. 80 students (38 third grade girl students in secondary school and 42 fifth grade girl students in elementary school) were selected with multi stage cluster sampling. Instruments of the study were metacognitive knowledge questionnaire and reading comprehension questionnaire. The result of the study indicated that: there is a positive correlation between metacognitive knowledge and reading comprehension in both grades. Among the elementary school’s fifth grade students, the person subscale was good predictors of reading comprehension. Among the secondary school’s third grade students, the task subscale was good predictors of reading comprehension. The person and task subscales predict 47% of variance of reading comprehension.  The third grade girl students in secondary school have higher scores in metacognitive knowledge and reading comprehension than fifth grade girl students in elementary school.

Abstract

This study to do identifying processes and strategies of emotion regulation and designing developmental model based on self-regulation patterns. Thus, this study examined emotion regulation with a developmental perspective in children age 4 - 12 years In Tehran. To 108 children, scenarios including four emotions namely sadness, madness, worry and pain were read. After the stories were read to the subjects and duly understood by them, and once an emotional atmosphere was created, subjects had an emotion regulation interview (ERI) and observation. Findings show that emotion regulation developed from extra-organismic self-regulation (input and output) toward intra-organismic (central processing). This trajectory is situation, attention and perception change, responding and expression modulating and internal-cognitive regulation.

Abstract

This study explores the necessity of conceptual change in teachers' professional development through creating knowledge building environment. In cognitive approaches to education the quality of education is considered to be a result of teachers' pedagogy and teachers' pedagogy is considered as a result of their cognition. Thereby the goal of many professional development programs is to educate teachers whose cognition is consistent with the latest research findings from cognitive and learning sciences. In this study the research synthesis was used to develop basic statements for salient characteristics of conceptual change framework. The analysis of the results showed that pedagogical belief system, teachers' preconceptions and how they align with scientific concepts, implicit theories, coherency of cognition, epistemological beliefs, metaconceptual awareness and experience-based belief system need to be considered in teachers' professional development. Finally, the possibility of creating knowledge building environment has been discussed.

Abstract

Several studies have investigated wishful thinking or desirability bias in children and adults, while no research has been conducted for the evolution of wishful thinking during childhood and adolescence. The aim of the present research was to investigate the evolution of wishful thinking in Iranian children and adolescents aged from 7 to 14. This study was an evolutional one with a cross-sectional method. Participants were all students aged from 7 to 14 in public schools in the academic year of 2019-2020. The sample consisted of 240 individuals in 4 age groups and each group was made up of 30 females and 30 males selected by the convenience sampling method. The marked-card test, which has been designed as a web-based software, was used. The data were analyzed by a repeated measuring ANOVA. The results showed that wishful thinking among Iranian children did not decrease with age. Moreover, participants aged from 11 to 14 years indicated more severe bias than children from 7 to 10 years old in predicting unpleasant events, despite the perception of probabilities. Considering the effect of wishful thinking on the decision-making process, especially in predicting negative events and subsequently the occurrence of risky behaviors, further research would be necessary to find solutions for the awareness and balance of wishful thinking.

Abstract

Socio-emotional development is one of the fundamental bases of individual and social health. The present study aims to investigate the developmental trajectory of socio-emotional tendencies (SET) and its components in preschoolers. Our sample was 447 healthy Iranian preschoolers (girl=47.4%) aged 48-78 month-old (mean=66.57, SD=6.79). they were from Tehran, Bandar Abbas, Mashhad, Zarand, and Tabriz as the representative provinces of the Iranian population, based on the geographical distribution and socioeconomic status. We used the Persian version of the Kindergarten Inventory of Social-Emotional Tendencies (KIST) which consists of six components. It included hyperactivity-maladaptive behavior, social skills, communication skills, daily living skills, eating behavior, and separation anxiety symptoms.
We used Kruskal-Wallis test to investigate the developmental trajectory of SET. Results showed that there were significant changes in daily living skills and separation anxiety symptoms during 6-month periods, meanwhile there were no significant changes in the other four components and SET in total. Then, the Games-Howell post-hoc test was performed to follow up the observed differences among age categories. Results of the present study showed that SET doesn’t change significantly in early childhood. It propose that the critical period of the socio-emotional ability development occurs sooner or later

Participants of this study included 300 high school students in grades 10 to 12 from six schools in Qom, Iran who completed the BRIEF2 Scale, the FACES IV, Positive youth development–short form, Emotional maturity questionnaire and Emotion Regulation Scale. Structural equation modeling revealed was positively associated executive functions with family cohesion, emotion regulation with emotional maturity and positive youth development. Also, the results indicated that no significant relationship between emotion regulation and family cohesion. Interaction-mediation analysis demonstrated that emotion regulation in the relationship between executive functions and family cohesion plays a full mediating role and in the relationship between executive functions and positive youth development and in the relationship between executive functions and emotional maturity has minor mediating role.  In generally, attention to the findings in this study can be used by researchers and therapists in the design and application of effective cognitive and psychological interventions to reduce the problems and mitigate the crises facing adolescents.
