اینکه چرا برخی کشورها ثروتمند و برخی دیگر فقیرند؟ وآیا کشورهای فقیر از نظر عملکرد اقتصادی به سمت کشورهای ثروتمند همگرایی دارند؟ سوال هایی هستند که از دیر باز ذهن اقتصاددانان را به خود مشغول کرده است و پاسخ به این سوالات اساس شکل گیری الگوهای رشد اقتصادی محسوب می شوند. در جریان توسعه کشورهای در حال توسعه این بحث مطرح می شود که آیا همگنی نهادی و ساختاری، پیش‌شرط لازم برای همگرایی درآمدی و عملکرد کشورهای در حال توسعه است پژوهش ما به تجزیه و تحلیل نهادی در کشورهای در حال توسعه می پردازد. بنابراین در این پژوهش به بررسی و تشکیل خوشه‌های همگرایی نهادی و درآمدی در کشورهای در حال توسعه طی دروه زمانی  2020-2002 با استفاده از آزمون log t فیلیپس و سول (‏۲۰۰۷، ۲۰۰۹)‏ پرداخته شده است. نتایج نشان می دهند که همگرایی شاخص های نهادی میان کشورهای در حال توسعه رد می شود. با این حال، نتایج روش خوشه ای شواهدی قوی از وجود خوشه های همگرا میان کشورهای در حال توسعه ارائه می نماید. همچنین در این مطالعه به خوشه بندی درآمد سرانه کشورهای مورد بررسی پرداخته شده است که نتایج مشابهی را با خوشه بندی نهادی نشان می دهد. براساس نتایج به دست آمده در این روش، خوشه‌های نهادی در تشکیل خوشه ‌های درآمدی موثر می باشند.
