Abstract

The aim of the current research was to examine the effectiveness of group multi-components cognitive-behavior therapy on insomnia severity and quality of sleep of breast cancer patients after surgerical operation. Applying an available sampling procedure and randome assignment method for assigning group samples, a sample of 30 breast cancer patients (experimental=15, control= 15) were selected. The criteria of inclusion and exclusion were checked for and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and Insimnia Severity Inventory (ISI) were completed by all subject in three occasions (pre, post and follow-up stages).  The   six session’s therapy protocol were conducted on experimental group, whereas another group received only simple meeting with the therapist. Data extracted from questionnaires and analysed using Multivariate Analysis of Covariance (MANCOVA). Significant differences were revealed for insomnia severity in the follow up stage, and for quality of sleep in the post-test and follow-up stages, between two groups with decreased mean scores in the experimental group than contol.Multi-components Cognitive-behavioral therapy could improve insomnia severity and sleep quality of patients with breast cancer after surgery and is recommended for these patients to resolve their insomnia problems.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the structural equation model between defense styles and self-image in university students. Among the students who studied at the Kharazmi University 154 students were randomly selected and information from the defense style questionnaire and the Beck Self Concept Test were analyzed. The conceptual model of research was fitted with data. The size of the absolute (0.76), relative (0.89), external (0.87) and internal (0.91) indexes showed the fitness of the presented model. The path coefficients indicated that neurotic and immature mechanisms are related to different dimensions of self-concept. All of the studied paths, except for the path of mature defense mechanisms in three domains of self-concept (mental, physical and occupational), are significant. Also, the positive and significant correlation between the immature and neurotic defense mechanisms with self-concept determined. The results of this study emphasize the importance of the relationship between defenders with self-concept.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to predict mental health based on social support and personality traits. The method of this research is descriptive-correlational. The statistical population was all members of Red Crescent Society of seven provinces of Iran (East Azerbaijan, West Azerbaijan, Ardabil, Zanjan, Gilan, Kerman and Hormozgan) that 218 of them were selected the census method as the research sample. Measurement tools include, Social Support Questionnaire, Symptom Check List-25 and Neo Five Factor Inventory. Then data was analyzed by Pearson correlation and Stepwise regression. The results showed that there was a significant negative relationship between social support and mental health. There was also a significant positive relationship between neurotic personality dimension and mental health (high scores in the mental health questionnaire indicate low mental health). The results of stepwise regression analysis also showed that social support and neurotic personality dimension were able to explain and predict 20% of the variance of the mental health. Based on the research results, it can be said that social support and personality traits can play a significant role in promoting mental health in individuals and the need to pay attention to these important variables in mental health promotion programs should be considered.

Abstract

Psoriasis is a chronic, inflammatory skin disease associated with high levels of stress and significant negative impact on patients' quality of life. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of mindfulness-based stress reduction on quality of life and perceived stress in patients with psoriasis. This study was a semi-experimental study with pre-test, post-test and follow-up. The study statistical population included all the patients with psoriasis referred to specialized dermatology clinics in Khorramabad. The patients were first screened using the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Then 24 patients with psoriasis were selected through convenience sampling method and randomly allocated into experimental and control groups. The instrumental of this study was perceived stress scale and Dermatology Life Quality Index. The experimental group received MBSR intervention during eight sessions. Data analysis was done at descriptive and inferential levels using SPSS (23) and with normality tests, MANCOVA and ANCOVA. The results indicated that MBSR was effective in improving quality of life and reducing the perceived stress in patients with psoriasis and the effect of treatment was stable at the follow-up (p<0.001). MBSR can be used as an effective intervention to improve quality of life and reduce the perceived stress in patients with psoriasis.

Abstract

One of the main challenges in treating chronic disease is patients' adherence to treatment instructions. The aim of this study was to determine the mediating role of resilience in the relationship between attachment styles and treatment adherence in patients with chronic disease. The research design was descriptive-correlational. The statistical population included all patients with diabetes and hypertension in Guilan province in 2020. A sample of 399 people were selected by purposive sampling method. Data were collected through the Collins and Reed's Adult Attachment Scale (RAAS), the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale(CD-RISC), and the Modanloo Adherence to Treatment Questionnaire. Data processing was performed using path analysis technique in AMOS-24 software setting and bootstrap analysis in Macro program of Preacher and Hayes (2008). There was a significant direct relationship between adherence to treatment with resilience and secure and avoidant attachment style(p<0.01). However, there was no relationship between adherence to treatment and ambivalent attachment(p>0.05). The fit of the mediator model was improved after deleting the two non-significant paths and it was obtained a good fit by releasing the covariance error between the ambivalent attachment and the secure and avoidant attachment (CFI=1.00, RMSEA=0.086). Bootstrap analysis revealed that resilience mediates the associations between endogenous and exogenous variables. The coefficient of determination in the final model demonstrated that all exogenous and mediating variables predict 21% of the changes in the adherence to treatment. Resilience and attachment pattern are important in patients' adherence to the treatment procedure and it is suggested that skills and strategies for coping with the disease stress and increasing the capacity to adaptive coping to life-threatening conditions be included in the treatment program of patients with chronic diseases.

Abstract

The present study was conducted to investigate the role of meaning in life and time perspective in predicting treatment adherence of cardiovascular patients with a history of angiography. The research design is descriptive. The population included all cardiovascular patients with a history of angiography referred to Shahid Chamran Cardiac Hospital of Isfahan in 1402. The sample included 169 patients with a history of angiography who were selected purposefully. For collecting data, questionnaires about treatment adherence Seyed Fatemi et al (2017), time perspective Zimbardo and Boyd's (1999), meaning in life Steger et al (2006) were used. The results showed that dimensions of meaning in life and dimensions of time perspective have a significant relationship with adherence. The results of the hierarchical multiple regression analysis showed that the dimensions of meaning in life explain 46% of the variance of treatment adherence. These findings show that treatment adherence is influenced by meaning in life and time perspective. Therefore, it is possible to develop educational programs based on meaning in life and to adjust the time perspective to increase treatment adherence of cardiovascular patients who have been diagnosed at risk using an angiography diagnostic test to prevent the worsening of the disease through secondary prevention.
