Abstract

The purpose of this study was to designing and testing a model of some precedents and outcomes of work ability index. The variables in the model were arranged in three parts: precedents (personal resources, life management strategies and job-related stressors), outcomes (health- related quality of life and job performance) of work ability index. The participants were 320 employees of NISOC, in Ahvaz, who were selected by stratified random sampling method. Of this sample, 72 percent were men and average age was 41 years. Instruments used in this study were work ability index, life management strategies, general self-efficacy, optimism, coping skill, effort-reward imbalance, demand-control, health related quality of life and job performance questionnaires. Fitness of the proposed model was examined through structural equation modeling (SEM), using SPSS-16 and AMOS-16 software packages. The indirect effects were tested using the bootstrap procedure in Preacher and Hayes (2008) SPSS Macro program for mediation. Findings indicated that the proposed model fit the data. Better fit and more meaningful results obtained by correlating the errors of two paths. All of indirect effects were significant.

Abstract

Increasing pressure of stressors along with anxietyand depression reduce the human being’s ability todeal with simple issues of life. Women who are oftenfacingwith stressful situations are more fragile andvulnerable than men. The purpose of the present studywas to investigate the effect of Sahaja-Yogamindfulness exercises on reducing stress, anxiety anddepression in women with Stress, anxiety anddepression disorders. The Research design was Pretest
Post-test without control group. The statisticalpopulation of this research included 700 women who
went to Tehran’s Shahid Shirin health center. Basedon the purpose of the study, 20 women were selectedby the convenience sampling method. Theyweretrained in 12 two-hour sessions which lasted 3months. For the pre-test, post-test and the 3-monthfollow-up, depression, anxiety and stress scale wasused to collectdata. Analysis of variance withrepeated measures and t- test were used to analyze thecollected data. The results indicated that there wasasignificantdifference between the pre-test and posttestin terms of the reduction of stress, anxiety anddepression (p<0.01). The same results were obtainedafter a 3-month follow-up (p<0.01). So it seems thatthe Sahaja Yoga mindfulness exercise program, as asupplementary intervention, along with other commontreatments can be useful for treating emotionaproblems of individuals, especially women.

Abstract

The applications  of  electrical  stimulation of  the  brain , which include invasive and non-invasive methods , are now burgeoning in the fields of neuroscience. The aim of this study, was to investigate the effects of transcranial direct current stimulation on dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) in reducing the smoke craving and the rates of stress. Therefore, using random sampling and snowball method, in the population of smokers in the students of kharazmi university, we selected 20 subjects and assigned them in experimental and control group. The instrument used in this study, was the smoking urge questionnaire (SCQ) and stress subscale of depression, anxiety, stress scale (DASS). Analysis of covariance and t-test of diminished scores showed that there are significant differences between groups in rates of craving and stress in post-test stage (respectively, 0.035 & 0.000, p<0.05).in addition, the number of used cigarette reduced after interventions (0.029,p<0.05). Generally, tDCS had an effective role in reduction of smoke craving and stress in experimental group.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate the mediating role of self-knowledge process (integrative self-knowledge and mindfulness) and self control in regulating of relationship between perceived and objective stress and anxiety, depression, and physical symptoms. 217 firefighters were selected by simple stratified sampling from 22 stations. They responded to integrative self-knowledge (Ghorbani et al.,2008), mindfulness (Brown & Ryan.,2003), self control (Tangeny et al.,2004) perceived stress (Cohen et al., 1983) objective stress (made in this research), anxiety and depression(Costello & Comrey.,1967) scals  and symptoms check list(Bartone.,1995). The results showed the interaction between integrative self- knowledge and self control has the most role in regulating the relationship between perceived stress and anxiety, depression and physical symptoms. Objective stress influenced by perceived stress that emphasized on importance of subjectivity of stress.Finally, Findings indicate the mediating role of self-knowledge process in relationship between stress and anxiety, depression, and physical symptoms.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the relationship between severities of deafness, child’s age, social support, parents’ Demographic variable and family function    with stress and mental health among parents of children with hearing impairment. This study was a correlational study and to carry it out 180 parents were selected using availability sampling method. They completed perceived social support questionnaire, PSI index, GHQ, FAD-I scale and demographic questionnaires for parents and children. To analyze the data, multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) and hierarchical regression were used. Correlation coefficients showed that the severity of deafness and child's age had positive relationship with parents’ mental health problems and stress.  Furthermore, there was a significant negative relationship between social support, family income and family function. Also, the correlations between problem solving, emotion expression and mental health and parental stress were significantly negative. Therefore, family function, child's characteristics, perceived social support and family income had a relationship with mental health and parental stress.

Abstract

Resource congruent model of stress emphasized on the role of cultural schemas and also heterogeneity of coping styles. The aime of this study was to investigate factor structure of coping schema inventory (CSI) which was created based on resourch congruent model. We selected 1۰۴۶ Iranian student who speak in Persian, Kurdish, Lurish and gilaki languages by multistage cluster method. Confirmatory factor analysis and exploratory factor analysis have been used for assessing psychometric properties. Finding showd that a six factor solution was the best fitted by the pattern in data. These six factor model explained 38% variance of coping schemas inventory. Coping schemas which was identified by factor analysis were religious, situational, passive emotional, acceptance, social support and active emotional. Internal consistency (cronbaches alpha) were calculated 0/65-0/84 for subscales of CSI.It seemed in Iranian culrure coping schemas including situational, religious, passive emotions, social support, acceptance and active emotion was more available and also more usable than other coping schema including self-restructuring, meaning, and tensition reduction. This pattern of results was consisted with predictions of resource congruent model of coping with stress.

Abstract

Separation anxiety is a kind of disorder that has a direct relationship with parenting style. Family based intervention and play therapy is a comprehensive program including training sessions for parents which focus on improving interpersonal relationships, establishing a healthy and positive interaction in the family, controlling family anger, investigating communication barriers in marital relationships, educating children and providing play therapy for children. Objective of the present study was to investigate the effectiveness of family based intervention and play therapy in parenting style and stress of mothers and clinical symptoms of children with separation anxiety disorder.   Present research is a semi-experimental study in which there were two groups of 14 subjects along with pre-test and post-test.   Statistical population of the present study included all clients of a counseling centers in Tehran city who has been diagnosed with separation anxiety disorder. Therefore, to select some samples, availability sampling method was used.  Analysis of the research data with multivariate covariance analysis method showed that there was a significant difference between the parenting style and stress of mothers and clinical symptoms of children with separation anxiety disorder in both experimental and control group. This intervention had a significant effect on the parenting style of mothers and the reduction of parenting stress and it also reduced clinical symptoms in children with separation anxiety disorder.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to examine the structural relationships of self-Compassion, cognitive flexibility and post-traumatic stress disorder. The study method was descriptive-correlation. The statistical population included all the people who were supported by the Relief Committee and the Martyr foundation of Gilane-Qarb City at the second half of 2016 due to the exposure to at least one traumatic event (including mine explosions leading to maim and death of parents). The sample of this study comprised of 190 individuals who were selected through stratified random sampling method. For collecting data, demographic information, post-traumatic stress disorder (Mississippi), self-compassion and cognitive flexibility scales were used. Collected data tested using factor analysis method and structural equation modeling. Data analysis was performed by PLS software. Results showed that indicators associated with processing model, approved the path of self-compassion traumatic stress disorder with the mediation of cognitive flexibility. In addition, self-compassion affects the post-traumatic stress disorder either directly or indirectly. Therefore, cognitive flexibility is one of the explanatory passages for self-compassion communication and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Abstract

Culture influence psychological phenomena in different ways. In this article, we introduce a framework for studying relationship between culture and psychological phenomena and we presented findings from some cross-cultural studies in this framework. It seems the definition and classification of personality traits, the experience of stress and mental health moderated by culture. The associations between positive and negative affects and mental health was different among Iranian and Swedish culture. In Iranian culture, both kind of affects was associated with mental health, whereas in Swedish culture, only positive affect was associated with mental health. Iranian students more used primary process against stress, whereas Swedish students more used secondary process. In addition, academic stress among Iranian students was less than Swedish students. It could conclude that there were some similarities and differences between Iranian and Swedish culture in personality traits, experience of anxiety, and coping with stress. Therefore, any policy making in global level and designing behavioral change strategies in national level should be influenced by these cultural similarities and differences

Abstract

Hearing Impairment is one of the most complicated sensory impairments that has an effect on parenting stress and parent-child interaction. Parent-child interaction program taken from parent-child interaction therapy (PCIT) theory which was developed by Sheila Eyberg resulted from her wide background on actor theory, traditional child psychotherapy and the first child development. In fact this program has used both attachment theory and social learning theory to gain access to ways of powerful parenting. So parent-child interaction is effective for a correct performance with the child and reduction of parenting stress especially for those who are hearing-impair and have parents who are not. Parents who have a child who is hearing-impaired have a negative cognitive evaluation of their abilities as parents so causing a reduction in mental health and well-being of parents. The present study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of educational program of parent-child interaction for mothers who have a hearing-impaired child on reduction of parenting stress and relationship of parents with the child. The present study was of semi-experimental kind and used pre-test and post-test model and a follow-up step with control group. Sample included 30 preschool children with hearing impairment and their parents were purposefully selected and randomly put in two groups of experimental and control. Then before performing, parent-child interaction program was designed and edited by the researcher. This program included providing need assessment form and defining parent education parameters. In child directed interaction (CDI), reward, mimicry, reflection, description, enthusiasm, getting attention and in parent directed interaction (PDI) issuing good orders, encouraging discipline, punishing by standing on the chair because of disobedience and making authentic rules at home were considered. Subjects of experimental group received parent-child interaction program in 12 sessions during one month. To study parent-child interaction and parenting stress, parent-child relationship scale and parent stress scale were used. The findings showed mean of scores in parent-child interaction and parenting stress has been effective in father; but it increased more in control group in post-test in comparison with pre-test in mother. The results of the study showed the importance of parents' cooperation in parent-child interaction. It seems effectiveness of parent-child interaction program showed on improving the relationship of parents with child having a hearing impairment.

Abstract

The human mental organization has a behavioral regulative principle that operates based on certain conscious and unconscious needs. Experience of stress disrupts human mental structure and results in symptoms of psychological and physical disorders. One source of stress is having ailing children. Accordingly, this study investigates self-regulation mediational processes in the context of perceived stress in mothers of children diagnosed with cancer. The convenience sample of this study consisted of 245 mothers, who volunteered to participate and were administered the following questionnaires: Integrative self-knowledge; Self-control Scale; Self-compassion Scale; perceived stress and Chronic Self-destructiveness Scale, body-symptoms checklist. Analysis of the survey data was carried out using structural equation modeling (SEM). The analysis suggests that perceived stress is mediated through self-regulation for self-destructiveness, physical symptoms, and unpleasant self-relevant through. Therefore, exposure to stress has destructive effects both in terms of physical symptoms and on an emotional and behavioral level. The authors concluded that self-regulation was a supportive variable, helping individuals cope better with unpleasant events, retrieve their ideal mental balance and maintain their mental organization. It is implied that based on a self-regulation model, effective management of one’s mental organization can improve an individual’s capacity to effectively cope with inevitable sources of stress.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate the relationshipbetween children'sanxiety level and children'sawareness of coronavirus based on the healthbelief model and their mothers'anxiety, stress   and depression during social distancing period. This correlational study was done on260students of preschool and elementary schools of educational areas in Tehran in 2020 and theirmothers that were selected as available sampling. Data were collected by a self-designed questionnaire of children'sawareness and attitude to coronavirus, Spence Children'sAnxiety Scale (SCAS), and depression, anxiety and stress scales (DASS-42) in adults.
The results indicated significant relationship of children'sanxiety with anxiety (r = 0.45), stress (r = 0.35) and depression (r = 0.44) of their mothers and level of their awareness ofCorona (r = 0.19) and age (r = 0.14).Also, the results of multiple regression analysis in step-by-step manner showed that anxiety, depression and stress of mothers and children'sawareness of Coronavirus were significant predictors of children'sanxiety (altogether 34%).
According to the results of this research, one of the necessary measures toprotect and improve the mental health of children in critical conditions consequent Coronavirus is parents'training to regulate their negative emotions. It is also important to provide information about coronavirus to children with considering their age and cognitive development.

Abstract

The COVID-19 virus pandemic, beginning from late 2019 and its continues presence in 2020 has influenced the entire 8 billion populations of human society, governmental structures and health care systems throughout the world. The highest impact of this virus is on humans, despite their  sex, race and cultural background. As a result of its extensive effects, contagious nature and its effect on human's psychological conditions, the term Corona-phobia was introduced. In some countries, the exaggeration and derivatives of this fear have led to public anxiety. Attitude, beliefs and human values can define the state of this phobia in its individual and general sense. Attitude is an evaluation which is built upon facing different matters and can be produced through cognition, emotion, and behavior. It is formed through time and a transformational process and creates beliefs and values, which are not easy to reframe once shaped. On the other hand, personal attitude and beliefs are in constant connection with cultural beliefs. Perhaps in a maximizing condition, it can be assumed that personal beliefs won't last long without cultural beliefs. Therefore, this new pandemic virus can establish different implications and beliefs, governing our deeds in the years to come. This paper is intended to overlook attitudes and beliefs during the coronal virus pandemic, using a theoretical model, and assess the new formation of personal and cultural beliefs under stress and evaluate the expectancy of new conditions during the post-Corona time.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to present an exploratory model to express the relationships between a set of factors including personality factors, attachment styles, control source, coping strategies and perceived stress and disease perception in patients with hemophilia, emphasizing the mediating role of social exchange styles. The present study is a correlational study based on path analysis. In order to conduct the study, 450 patients from the Hemophilia Support Centre in Isfahan were randomly selected. The instruments used in this study included the Neo Five Personality Factor Questionnaire, the Hazen and Shaver Attachment Styles Scale, the Rutter Control Scale, the Andler and Parker Stress Coping Questionnaire, the Cohen Perceived Stress Questionnaire, the Disease Perception Questionnaire and the Libman Social Learning Exchange Questionnaire. The results indicated a linear relationship between a group of factors such as neurotic personality traits, responsibility, extraversion and flexibility, two coping styles (emotion-oriented, problem-oriented and avoidance) and a secure attachment style and disease perception. The results also showed personality traits (neuroticism, extraversion, pleasantness, flexibility and responsibility), coping styles (avoidance and emotion-oriented), attachment style (safe and unsafe ambivalent) and source of control are related to the perception of disease through the mediating role of social exchange style fairness. Therefore, in order to provide measures to improve the perception of patients with hemophilia, it is necessary to pay special attention to personality traits, coping styles, attachment style, source of control and perceived stress in addition to fair social exchange styles.

Abstract

Nowadays, the internet is one of the essential parts of student life, and its addiction is causing many problems. This study aimed to model structural equations of borderline and psychopathic personality traits with internet addiction and mediating distress intolerance. Participants included male and female students of Tabriz University. Two hundred sixty students were selected by cluster sampling and completed the Borderline Personality and Levinson's Psychopathic Traits questionnaire, Young's Internet Addiction Test, and Simon and Gaher's distress tolerance Scale. Finally, 240 questionnaires were analyzed by structural equation modeling. The results showed that borderline and psychopathic personality traits directly affected internet addiction, and distress tolerance was a significant mediator of these relationships. It is suggested to consider the role of distress tolerance in people with borderline and psychopathic traits in the study and intervention of internet addiction.

Abstract

Stress is one of the mental disorders is one of the effective factors in the incidence of negative effects during pregnancy that can lead to adverse physical and mental consequences in pregnant women. Pregnant women with the prevalence of Covid 19 disease due to the experience of quarantine and fear of infection the disease and losing the embryo have increased stress and mental health problems, which have added to the problems of pregnant women. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) in redacting perceived stress in pregnant women during the Covid -19 pandemic. This research was a quasi-experimental study with pre-test and post-test and follow up with control group. The sample population consisted of 30 Pregnant Women who were selected by the available sampling method and randomly assigned to the experimental group and the control group. The present research tools are the perceived stress questionnaire (cohen, 1983) and acceptance and commitment therapy (Hayes, 2013). The experimental group received the acceptance and commitment therapy for 8 sessions, each for 90 minutes as online, and The control not received any intervention. Data analysis was performed by the Repeated measures analysis method. The finding indicates that acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) led to reducing perceived stress in pregnant women (P<_ 0.01). Considering the effectiveness of acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), it can be mentioned that to improve the mental health of Pregnant Women and relieve their stress during the Covid 19 pandemic, which leads to physical and mental damage to mother and child, such these Interventions seem necessary and important.

Abstract

This study is a case report that aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of LEARN multifaceted stress management program in reducing perceived stress and improving irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) symptoms. The research samples, were two women with severe IBS, selected from the ones seeing a gastroenterology subspecialist in Zafar area of Tehran, via convenience sampling method and based on inclusion-exclusion criteria. Perceived stress and severity of IBS symptoms were measured by Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) and GISR scale respectively, before intervention, during implementation and three months after the end of sessions. Findings’ analysis using graph drawing and remission index calculation with that formula, represented the effectiveness of LEARN multifaceted stress management program in perceived stress reduction and IBS symptoms improvement. Also, this improvement was maintained in the range of 50% to 56%, in three-month follow-up after the intervention. Therefore, based on biopsychosocial model, due to effective components of LEARN multifaceted program, this program can be considered as a suitable treatment option for IBS.

Abstract

This study examined the associations among the cognitive fusion, sense of coherence, rumination, and psychological distress, in cancer patients, as well as the mediating role of emotional dysregulation, in the relationship between this variables in cancer patients. Participants included 200 cancer patients who completed the DASS-21, Cognitive fusion questionnaire, sense of coherence scale, Rumination scale and the DERS-16. Structural equation modeling revealed was a direct associated between rumination with emotion dysregulation and emotion dysregulation with psychological distress. Also, the results indicated that no significant relationship between cognitive fusion and sense of coherence with psychological distress. Interaction-mediation analysis demonstrated that emotion dysregulation in the relationship between cognitive fusion and sense of coherence with psychological distress plays a full mediating role and in the relationship between rumination and psychological distress has minor mediating role. Therefore, considering the relationships between the studied variables and identifying the role of emotional dysregulation as a mediating variable in this regard, paying attention to the findings can be the first step in identifying the variables involved in psychological distress in cancer patients. This is followed by the design and application of evidence-based training and rehabilitation programs to reduce psychological pain and suffering in cancer patients, which can be considered by the mental health team of these patients.

Abstract

Psoriasis is a chronic, inflammatory skin disease associated with high levels of stress and significant negative impact on patients' quality of life. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of mindfulness-based stress reduction on quality of life and perceived stress in patients with psoriasis. This study was a semi-experimental study with pre-test, post-test and follow-up. The study statistical population included all the patients with psoriasis referred to specialized dermatology clinics in Khorramabad. The patients were first screened using the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Then 24 patients with psoriasis were selected through convenience sampling method and randomly allocated into experimental and control groups. The instrumental of this study was perceived stress scale and Dermatology Life Quality Index.The experimental group received MBSR intervention during eight sessions. Data analysis was done at descriptive and inferential levels using SPSS (23) and with normality tests, MANCOVA and ANCOVA. The results indicated that MBSR was effective in improving quality of life and reducing the perceived stress in patients with psoriasis and the effect of treatment was stable at the follow-up (p<0.001). MBSR can be used as an effective intervention to improve quality of life and reduce the perceived stress in patients with psoriasis.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of group Transdiagnostic Treatment on anxiety in adolescents with type 1 diabetes and their parenting stress. The present study was a quasiexperimental with a pretest and posttest design with a control group. The statistical population of the present study was all adolescents aged 1215 years with type 1 diabetes referred to the Iranian Diabetes Association and their parents in 2020. Using available and targeted sampling method, fortyfour people were selected and randomly divided into two groups of twentytwo. In order to assess parental stress, parental stress index (Abidin, 1990) and Child / adolescent Behavior Checklist (Achenbach, 1991) were used before and after the Protocol. The Protocol was performed for the experimental group during 17 sessions. Data analysis was performed using covariance analysis. The results showed that there was a significant difference between the groups in terms of parental stress (P<0.005) and anxiety in adolescents (P<0.001). The analysis of the results showed the effect of the group Transdiagnostic Treatment on reducing anxiety in adolescents with type 1 diabetes and reducing their parenting stress.This Protocol can be used to provide education to adolescents with diabetes and their families and to provide preventive interventions.
